Its not for the faint of heart…

Tuesday I went to my first ever, Bootcamp class. I heard about this class through the church I attend. Its called Masterpiece Fitness.

Sounds sweet right and easy right?

Good heavens.

It was BOOTCAMP people. It was challenging.

At one point toward the end I had to squash the repeating mantra in my head “I’m gonna die. I’m gonna die.” and replace it with “You can do anything. You can do anything”.

The bootcamp consisted of circuit training. Cardio mixed in with weights.

I liked that the class kept moving and every minute you’re doing something new. I felt like I got a total body workout. 50 crunches… I have NO idea when I last did 50 crunches… if… ever.

And I have decided… I like jumping jacks. :)

Have you tried any new workout classes in 2011?

My workouts has been few and far between lately. I’ve finally recovered completely from being sick. Stupid bronchitis. I have gotten in a few Zumba classes (love them!).

I’ve want to go run, but I’ve had to listen to my body and not push myself. Pushing myself is what helped me stay sick for a month! Ugh, not fun.

When it comes to being sick, exercise sometimes has to take a back seat to rest. That’s hard for me to do, because I don’t like to rest. I never napped as a kid and barely ever nap now. For me rest is definitely one of the best ways to get over sickness. So I have to make myself slow down.

What about you? Do you rest when you’re sick or still work out as normal?

Tell me about your workouts…

Have you ever tried Zumba?

Last Friday I tried Zumba for the first time. I have for a while been too chicken to try out this class. After last weeks Workout Wednesday I decided to eat my own words and try out this class for the first time.

My thoughts?….

I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!

It was so much fun!! SO SO SO much fun! Have you ever tried it? It’s fun, upbeat, and keeps you moving. I didn’t think at first I’d even break a sweat but as the 60 minute class went on I definitely was sweating and feeling it. Love it. I can’t wait till Friday to go again. :)

Is there a machine at the gym that’s always intimidated you?

That you just won’t even bother trying because well… you could totally embarrass yourself in front of people?

Mine was this…

*insert dramatic music* the STAIRMASTER!

It took me years to get the nerve up to get on that thing. Back story… I got on it once, only to fall off gracefully and then leave embarrassed.

Finally when I decided that the stairmaster wasn’t going to master me anymore and I was going to make this machine submit to me, I discovered something pretty cool…

I loved it! This machine was hard, yet simple. It made me break into a sweat pretty quick, and it challenged me to keep going. I remember the day I made it to 10 minutes on it… that was HUGE! I normally could only stand the thing for 3-5 minutes. I remember the day when I made it to 30 minutes! Each time pushing myself a little harder. It was so rewarding to finally try something that I had so dramatically work up in my mind to be scary and too hard.

Sometimes the biggest thing that holds us back in life, is ourselves. What I’ve learned through working out and trying new exercises is that, the only person holding me back, is me. It sounds cliche, but you CAN do anything you put your mind to. If you commit to something, commit with your whole heart, not just your head. You can accomplish more than you ever thought you could, in or out of the gym!

Now its your turn, what are/is your workouts this week? also, has there ever been an exercise machine or class that’s ever scared you to try?
