Vacation Food

It happens… we go on vacation, with all good intentions of eating our normal healthy way and then… you see the menu, the food is beyond amazing, you don’t have things like this back home, just one more bite, I’ll just try a little, and then you’re stuffed. Repeat. Repeat.

Thankfully in Vegas I did a ton of walking, so I didn’t gain weight, but coming home I still feel blah. Ya know when you’ve had a sugar overload and your body is blah? Thats how I feel. Its like a Food Hangover. So what do you eat to recover from it? Because, you have to eat. Skipping meals is very unhealthy and I personally think it jacks with your body way more. I went to the grocery store yesterday and picked up some of these items…

  • Fresh Spinach
  • Bananas
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Whole Grain Cereal
  • Frozen Strawberries, Blueberries, Bananas, and Raspberries
  • Agave Nectar
  • Almond Milk (oh yes, there will be smoothies in my future!)
  • Avocados
  • Salsa (love adding this into my Salads)
  • Tomatos
  • Asparagus
  • White Eggs (Love egg white omelettes)
  • Just to name a few….
Of course for Hubs I picked up Fish and Chicken for his protein. While in Vegas and trying to find something healthy for breakfast I discovered this juice sold at Starbucks…
This green machine looks weird… but tastes fantastic. I had it a few times there and when I was at the grocery store I knew I wanted to pick a couple of them up. At first I was sad that the store didn’t have it… but then I looked down at the bigger sizes and BAM! there it was. YEA! See Hubs and I are wanting to start making our own green drinks, we’re in the market for a Vitamix (know of any good deals?). I was glad to add this juice to our grocery list as a way to get passed the Food Hangover.
There’s something about having fresh vegetables and fruits in your life that make you feel brand new (plus adding in some exercise is even better). I’m already feeling good again.
What do you do to get passed the post-vacation food hangover?

Highlights of Vegas Vacation

Vegas was great, but its good to be home! Hubs and I had a fantastic time and literally walked for miles and miles… and yes, my feet killed me. I wanted to find good shoes before hand to walk in and not just flip flops, but that just didn’t happened… So the flips and I walked many miles and between wearing heels, my feet ache… even today!  Oh well…

Some highlights of Vegas were…

  • Seeing the amazing decor in each hotel
  • Winning $300 (turned $20 into $300)
  • Going shopping in Caecer’s Palace “The Forum Shops”
  • Going to see Garth Brooks perform (Hubs favorite singer). Now I’m not a country fan, at. all. But, his show was so entertaining. Garth told stories of his family and life experiences and would do a melody of songs. Very entertaining, and hilarious!
  • Touring the Hoover Dam
  • Seeing all the crazy Vegas life, street performers, ill-fitted fashion, delicious restaurants, froyo place inside our hotel (score!) and pretending like I stay up late and can hang… Nope… I wanted to be in bed by 10. ;)
  • and of course… coming home to this pretty little welcoming face…

Winning in Vegas

So far I’ve turned $20 into $300, and went shopping!!! ;)

Hope everyone’s having a fantastic weekend!

Dallas for the Weekend

This past weekend we went to Dallas (at the very last minute), Hubs had business to attend to and since he had been gone all week in San Diego, I was more than happy to tag along for this mini-getaway. Here’s my weekend in iPhone photos…

Hubs and I managed to get a walk in Saturday night around the hotel area, it felt good to exercise! I don’t know if I can really count walking the mall as exercise.. but eh, maybe at the right pace I’d feel like I was “exercising“. ;) With a quick trip like this I never got a chance to get a good workout in and boy did my body feel it.
We got home Sunday afternoon and after unpacking, headed to the gym. It felt great to knock out a cardio workout. Monday calls for Zumba in the morning and strength training in the evening. We only have a few days here and then we’re off to Vegas (finally) and I have a question for you

Who has been to Vegas, raise your hand?

Second, what type of shoes do you recommend walking (shopping) all day in. I refuse to wear sneakers – I’m not going to the gym. I’m in Vegas. And I think flip flops will eventually make my feet and back hurt. What’s a girl to do!?
