Instrument of Grace

All of you are absolutely wonderful people. Do you know that? Seriously, thank you so much for all the sweet words regarding the passing of my grandma. From all my heart. Thank you. We were suppose to be in Vegas right now at this very moment, but due to the current events, we had to cancel it. My husband who is awesome, got the whole trip refunded and already rebooked for a month from now. He’s so great. Got all of that taken care of so I didn’t have to stress over it right now. Now we can just reflect on what a nice long life my grandma lived and enjoy family around us.

Let’s not forget we’ve got a Squat Challenge going on!

Join in and be sure to tweet about your exercises using the hashtag #SquatChallenge :)

So ya’ll know how I started a Garden and whatnot. And clearly I had no idea what I was doing, especially when I threw away the seed packets and totally forgot what I planted and where. Oh well. We’ll figure it out eventually. Well my mom came over one day and checked out the garden and pointed to a plant and proclaimed “You’ve got pumpkins! And Corn!” YEA! I remember planting those, among other things. So this afternoon I was out there pulling weeds again and growling at said weeds and how evil they are, how frustrating it is that a weed can come in and try to destroy something so good. I was frustrated. I pulled weed after weed and started to see the dirt again. But there is something therapeutic about getting rid of weeds, especially when you feel like your world has turned upside down. Even still, I hated that I had to go out there again and try and save my garden from those evil buggers. “Maybe I should just start over, rip it all up, drown the garden in weed killer and start again.”… “ugh I can’t do that. I can’t quit something I started. I just can’t.”…”Don’t worry garden, I’ll get these nasty guys outta here.” These were the thoughts running through my head. Thenn Hubs came outside and noticed something… “HEY! You grew something!

Exercise Move of the Day: Squats

Squats seem so simple, yet they are so powerful. Just look at this picture, there’s so many muscles working during this movement…

{I don’t remember where this image came from… so if its yours, let me know & I’ll credit you.}

That’s a lot of muscles working for you! The key is perfect form, just like in the picture above you want this movement to feel almost as if you’re going to sit in a chair, your body weight is in the back of your heels and watch to make sure your knees don’t go over your toes.

  • Place your feet slightly shoulder-width apart.
  • Bring your arms out in front of you (for balance)
  • Squat back as if you are going to sit down on the chair
  • Repeat!
Try doing 10 at first. If your booty & legs aren’t screaming at you, bump that number up to 15, still nothing? Take it to 20. Repeat set 3 times, and then you just got a great lower body exercise in. Randomly I’ll be working in the kitchen and waiting on something to boil, wash, whatever and I’ll take advantage of that time and get some squats in. Hey, why not!? Every little bit adds up!
Have you ever heard of the website “200 squats“? I hadn’t until recently…
I think the challenge of doing 200 squats is pretty awesome. Awesome, until I read most of their website and thought they sounded a bit rude and turned off from their program (I’m about to go on a rant, just sayin’)… this is a quote from their site…
“No doubt some of you can already perform an impressive number of consecutive squats, but let’s face it, you’re in a big minority. Most of you reading this won’t even be able to manage 20 squats. Actually, I’m sure many of you can’t even do 10.”
Um… dang… way to lack faith in people. “I’m sure many of you can’t even do 10“. Um, rude much?
Here’s the thing peeps, squats are hard, but they’re not unattainable. They’re good for your body and make you feel strong. Yes, you can do 10, it may hurt and may take a couple minutes to knock out, but you can do it and you can work up to doing more. Rude comments like the above is what discourages people from even trying. You can do this!
You’ve got to start somewhere, for the rest of this week, I’m going to get in 10 squats a day 3 times a day. Will you join me?

It’s the Truth.
