Diet Pills and Jillian Michaels

So, there’s this contest that Fitness Magazine is putting on. I’m entered in it for a chance to be on the cover of Fitness Magazine. *Squeel*

It’d be super crazy awesome if it happened. :)

If you don’t mind taking a second to VOTE for me, that would fantastic. Vote here, its easy and takes one click. I think you can vote daily too. Voting ends March 11th. {then I’ll be notified if I get to go on to the next rounds} :) THANKS SO MUCH!!

And look what I got in the mail yesterday…

I got a Words to Sweat By workout towel! This towel is super soft. Not what I expected, very pleased though. :) Have you seen their website before? I love all the motivational and funny sayings. I’m excited to bring it along with me on my next workout!

And now on to a completely different topic…

Let’s talk. This bothers me. I like Jillian Michaels. In fact, I’ve been a big fan of hers for quite a while and could seriously be considered a groupie. I like her that much. She’s hardcore, and that’s cool. But this…
is not cool.

Weight-loss pills? Rapid Weight Loss System? Are you friggin‘ kidding me.

I’ve read Jillian’s book: Master Your Metabolism: The 3 Diet Secrets to Naturally Balancing Your Hormones for a Hot and Healthy Body and thought it was good. Talked about not putting JUNK into your body and eating REAL food and losing weight the right way. No quick fix.

Weight-loss pills. Naturally losing weight. Um… sounds contradicting, yes? I think so.

I’m completely bothered that Jillian Michaels, who has a LOT of influence in the Healthy Living/Fitness scene would come out with a Rapid Weight Loss System.

Sigh.

Sadly, I think people want a quick fix and would easily try something like this. I need to do some research into this stuff and see what it actually does to your body. I know things like Hydroxycut causes liver failure. Terrible right? Trying to fix one problem and actually creating another.

When are we going to learn that if you want to lose weight, there is NO quick fix.

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? Rants? Lets talk.

  2. I love Jillian too! Her workouts are awesome and after reading some of her books she really knows what it really takes to get a healthy body and mindset. She’s become such an influential person in the healthy living world I don’t I think she shouldn’t have done the weight loss pills although I don’t really know what’s in them, and I think her popularity and power of influence has soared since she started her diet pill line (I’m not saying b/c of the diet pills but that she didn’t know how much influence she might have one day before she put these pills out). I can’t say what I would do in her shoes given the opportunity to put a product out in my name that would help with my career. So, I don’t agree with her doing so, but I will still continue to look up to her as a great role model and fitness expert.

  3. I was super disappointed when she came out with diet pills as well. While I agree with what Britt is saying about launching products to up your name, I definitely think it’s a huge contradiction to what she’s promoted prior to the pills and I think that too many people rely on quick fixes like this to lose weight. It never works out well :-/ But I still love JM through and through as far as her DVDs and fitness tips goes!!

  4. This whole Jillian thing makes me crazy too, I saw those diet pills the other day and it’s just so wrong.

  5. Right! I thought that same thing when her pills first came out. It makes her seem like she’s just “in it” for the monetary benefits.

  6. Oh Sugar, I tried to vote for you, but do you know what number you are? There are a lot of people to sort through! :o )
Jillian. Hmm. Not knowing WHAT is in her “diet” pills I hesitate to say. I know NOTHING about them at all. I do imagine that the pressure to put your name on “health” products is pretty great. I mean, that WHOLE SHOW is sponsored. Every second. “Yes, you should pack your OWN healthy lunch and store it in Gladware bags – you can make your lunch while chewing Extra sugar free gum and drinking a glass of Brita filtered water!” You know what I mean. Television.

  7. I voted for you! I hope you win :)
On Jillian… I agree with you! I don’t understand how she is contrudicting herself by marketing those pills! I am still a fan, but now I see her a little differently. I guess sometimes money gets the best of you, no matter how strong you believe in something. boooo

  8. I totally agree, I do still like her, but she really is contradicting herself!
Do you know what number you are?

  9. I have mixed feelings about the Jillian Michael’s pills. I listened to her post casts long before Biggest Loser was in its 10th (or 11th) season. She has always been a proponent of supplements as long as they were natural. She uses many herself. Not seeing the ingredients makes me leery. But I do remember her saying in one podcast about her working on creating a line of supplements so I wonder if these are it.

For BL she was never allowed to talk about using anything other than diet and exercise. Doing research into the things she mentioned in her podcasts like ginseng and caffeine and others does show that they have some benefits but you should always contact your doctor/sports medicine.

  10. I, too, read Jillian’s book, and I hate the fact she’s over-commercializing herself. I read last year that she was being sued over these pills anyway, so why continue to promote them? The only pills I ever took was Fahrenheit for women, and although it seemed to speed up my metabolism, it also sped up my heartrate and left a grassy taste in the back of my throat.. LOL

    It’s truly disappointing.
