Halloween 2010

Our cheerleader! “Go Team”

I called him G.I. Joe, he called himself a Tea Partier. ha!

Its blurry, sorry. but I’m a Real Housewife of Orange County. ;)

After having dinner at my sister’s house, we came home to pass out candy to our trick-or-treaters at our house. It was just plain sad ya’ll… we had MAYBE 10 kids total come to our house. I have a big ol’ bag of candy, that’s gonna have to get out of my house and fast! I think we need to move to a more friendly neighborhood where neighbors actually talk to each other instead of run inside their house and pretend not to see you when you wave (true story). ugh.

ANYWAY.

How was your Halloween? Did you dress up? What were you? Did you have trick-or-treaters?

Turtle Club Spot Light

Everyone meet Kim…

Name & Blog: Kim -  to dream the KIMpossible dream

When did you start running: January 2010 – it was what happened when I took some good old fashioned curiosity and mixed it with peer pressure from great friends.  Oh…and let us not forget to mention a special guest star appearance of just plain cRaZy.  For my story, read this post from my blog:  I Run to Be…

Where do you run at: around my neighborhood, Meyer Park in NW Houston, and when out of town I plan a little route and get a little lost trying to find it cuz I’m cool like that

Favorite thing about running: sense of accomplishment when the run is complete AND shopping for running gear and gadgets (so fun)!

Least favorite thing about running: running in the heat & humidity of a Houston summer AND the recovery after a long run when my muscles hate me  =(

If you could run any race any where, which would you do & why: When I first read about The Flying Pig Marathon (Cincinnati) in my Runner’s World back in March, I thought it sounded like so much fun.  After I complete my first full marathon on January 30th in Houston, I will decide whether or not I will do another (part of me highly doubts it).  If I did a second one, it will be this one.  http://www.flyingpigmarathon.com/

Your favorite quote/or mantra: “slow, steady, and FINISH the race”

Be sure to head over to Kim’s blog and check out how her training is going for her first Marathon!

I tried a Pomegranate

and I liked it.

A while back I tried POM Wonderful juice and liked it and thought I should try a real pomegranate. :)

I wasn’t quite sure how to open one, so I was really excited when I saw this blog post the other day on how to open a pomegranate: click here.

It was so juicy!

This isn’t a clean process. :)

I didn’t open the whole thing, I saved it and only used one section and took the arils out, and added them to my breakfast of blueberry yogurt and fiber one cereal…

My thoughts on fresh pomegranate: Excellent! So flavorful. Different, but something I wanted to eat again.

I went on POM Wonderful’s website to find some recipes since I have no idea what else to do with pomegranate.

This recipe for POM salsa looks tasty: click here.

Have you ever tried pomegranate? Do you have any recipes that use the fruit?

Workout Wednesday, Get Your Sweat On!

Is there a machine at the gym that’s always intimidated you?

That you just won’t even bother trying because well… you could totally embarrass yourself in front of people?

Mine was this…

*insert dramatic music* the STAIRMASTER!

It took me years to get the nerve up to get on that thing. Back story… I got on it once, only to fall off gracefully and then leave embarrassed.

Finally when I decided that the stairmaster wasn’t going to master me anymore and I was going to make this machine submit to me, I discovered something pretty cool…

I loved it! This machine was hard, yet simple. It made me break into a sweat pretty quick, and it challenged me to keep going. I remember the day I made it to 10 minutes on it… that was HUGE! I normally could only stand the thing for 3-5 minutes. I remember the day when I made it to 30 minutes! Each time pushing myself a little harder. It was so rewarding to finally try something that I had so dramatically work up in my mind to be scary and too hard.

Sometimes the biggest thing that holds us back in life, is ourselves. What I’ve learned through working out and trying new exercises is that, the only person holding me back, is me. It sounds cliche, but you CAN do anything you put your mind to. If you commit to something, commit with your whole heart, not just your head. You can accomplish more than you ever thought you could, in or out of the gym!

Now its your turn, what are/is your workouts this week? also, has there ever been an exercise machine or class that’s ever scared you to try?
