Saturday morning started out bright and early for the Lake Houston 5k/10k. The weather was nice and the humidity was low. YEA!
Hubs and I met up with our friends Rachel and Troy…
Rod and Troy did the 5k and Rachel and I did the 10k.
The race began at 8am, with a ready set go! And we were off!
I told myself I wasn’t going to push super hard right away and end up burning out…. the first 4 miles I felt awesome, the last 2.1 were harder. Thankfully I met a nice girl along the way and I we chatted a bit. I felt very fatigued. I only drank water on the course, I don’t like gatorade, but I’m thinking that I need something to replace the electrolytes I was burning though.
As I came around the corner getting closer to the finish line I saw my awesome Husband waiting for me! YEA! He ran and cheered me on to the finish line.
My friend Stephanie and her family were close to the finish line and took this awesome action shot! YEA!!
Thanks Steph!
When I was the finish line and the clock I started to sprint my way to the end. Have you ever sprinted to a finish line? When you’re tired, your body hates you and your feet heavier than bricks? That was me. I pushed beyond my comfort zone, I was tired, but I wanted to finish strong!
I was very happy with my 10k time. When I did the HEB 10k I finished in 1:32:19, for this race I finished in 1:30:33. YEA!
I may be a turtle, but I’m ok with that. My breathing was great, I never felt winded. Success!
Afterward we walked around to check out the Wellness Festival, eh. Nothing too exciting. So we went to Cracker Barrel for brunch. I had a fantastic egg {beaters} sandwich on sour dough bread, with a side of blueberries and strawberries. It was fantastic! Anyone eat at Cracker Barrel?
After some much needed rest… and a shower! Hubs and I went downtown to see my bestie’s new fancy apartment in midtown…
Photos taken at Ashley’s awesome balcony overlooking downtown
Loved it!
Way to go Ash!
Sunday morning I woke up feeling sore, my hamstrings were{are} tight. I could really used one of these…
A foam roller.
To me this is something I always say I need… but never think to get it until I need it. I always wait till they’re on sale, and that never happens. I should get over it… Sheesh.
ANYWAY…
How was your weekend?

yay for your 10K success!!! definitely way to pace yourself – I think that is one of the hardest things to do especially in the beginning when everyone takes off so fast and human nature is to take off with them! dude – go get yourself a foam roller NOW! I swear to you I use it AT LEAST once a day!!! so proud of you – wish I could have done it with you, but I definitely can’t wait for the Bearkat Bash to be reunited in race with my friend Lauren (it’s been since April that we last did a race together)!
Yeah…nice PB! I am so bad with my foam roller but am vowing to use it 2x/week…my poor body needs it.
Great job! Congrats on the PR!
Okay, first, great job on good breathing and a faster time on your 10K – you rock!
Also, awesome job on eating something at Cracker Barrel….I live french toast or biscuits with sausage gravy…all the bad stuff!!
I need a foam roller too…..Why don’t we just order it already??
Sorry … I meant good job on eating something healthy – need to proofread before sending…sorry!!
Great job on the race chica! Way to PR!!! Woot!!!
Way to bust out a 10K PR!!! Congratulations!
And yes, splurge for the full price foam roller. You’ll never regret those extra few dollars. Makes such a difference in your recovery.
Foam Roller has to be one of the best things I’ve ever purchased! it was $20 @ Sports Authority and worth every penny + more. Congrats on your 10k!! I need to do one soon!
Good for you for shaving 2 minutes off your time!!
And you are looking so skinny!!!
I like Cracker Barrel. I really miss it now that we’ve moved to California (where there are none!!). Sometimes you just want to eat Southern food!
way to go on the 10K. That’s awesome!
Awesome! Congrats on a great race! (I think you’re about ready for Nike!) I’m ready to get out there and start running again too! : ) I definitely recommend a foam roller. They make a huge difference, and it is worth every penny!
Way to sprint it out at the end. Good job!
Great job getting through the 10K. I always find miles 4 to 5 tricky too. The best part of racing is the shower after.
I’ve been wanting to get a foam roller too. I haven’t been able to justify the expense though. Maybe for my birthday.
I wanted to do this race, but was on vacation. Congrats on your time!
So thanks to trusty google I came across you and your blog! I’m doing the August 10k for Lake Houston and can’t wait and wanted to know if fellow bloggers had tried it out lol.
I’m so glad to have found your blog! Minus the age difference we have a lot in common ha (fitness lovers, vege, runners, and live in Houston!).
