Don’t Look Down

I have a bad habit when running…

I look at my feet…

Why do I do this? Oddly enough, I love the look of feet moving. {Call me crazy, go ahead} I think its neat to see how fast your feet can move. However, this is not only bad for posture, but its asking to get tripped up.

I was thinking about this the other night, and thought that looking down prevents me from looking ahead and moving forward safely. Enjoying the world around me, instead of focusing on my own steps.

Then it got me thinking, “Do I ever do this in other aspects of life?”

Have I ever been stuck in a rut, because I was looking down, instead of keeping my gaze forward. Ever stopped dreaming, because I was looking down, instead of focusing on the future.

It was a very deep thought to me. Our outward appearance is a reflection of our inward being.

Have you ever met someone and you can just feel their insecurities… even though they never say a word. You can see it in their posture, their emotion, their body language and facial expressions. Are they looking down, self-focused? Instead of embracing their uniqueness and enjoying the world around them?

I don’t know about you, but I want to live, dream, enjoy life! I don’t want to look down and lose sight of amazing possibilities or miss the opportunity to engage in life.

Don’t look down, move forward.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I just notices the other day that I wathc my feet while running too. (I’ve only been running for about 3 months). I am making a consious effort to look up when I run AND when I walk as well. Your blog today was timely for me. Thanks.

  2. Funny thing about me is that I have a tendency to run looking down (and yes – it’s terrible form and I’m convinced causes my shoulder and upper back pain) and live life too much forward. This means I have a tendency to wish away the present for some unknown future…I’m trying to live a little more in the moment right now with one eye on the future so I don’t forget that today affects tomorrow.
