Christmas in July

It’s happening

I’m day dreaming of Christmas…

The smell of peppermint candles burning…

The tree sparkling…

Christmas Music playing in the background and…

COOLER WEATHER.

Which may be one of the main things I’m dreaming of. It’s so humid here, it’s stupid.

Now back to Christmas, happy thoughts here people. I was curious as to why in the summer you hear the phrase “Christmas in July”. Is it because its the middle of the year and you start to crave the holidays? Well wiki pedia says:

In the United States and Canada, there are no national holidays between the first week of July (Canada Day on July 1 in Canada and the Fourth of July in the United States) and Labo(u)r Day, leaving two months with no holidays. (Some Canadian provinces hold a Civic Holiday in August, but this is not a national holiday.) Those holidays are not ones where gifts are exchanged between loved ones. Therefore, to justify sales, shops (such as Leon’s in Canada) will sometimes announce a “Christmas in July” sale.

I do know, that running in the winter months could be brutal, but its easier to layer on clothes and stay warm… you’re outta luck when its hot!

I found this article from one of my fav websites, FitSugar, its how to burn calories during the holiday months, I think it could even apply for now, whatcha think?:

Holidays are a great time to get together with family and friends, to share laughter and memories, and to eat a ton of delicious decadent foods.

Here are 5 easy ways to burn 100 calories around this time of year:

  1. Vacuum your entire house before your guests arrive for 25 minutes.
  2. Clean vigorously around the house for thirty minutes – scrubbing the shower, washing the windows and floors, and sweeping the stairs.
  3. Iron your family’s fancy party clothes so they look pressed and neat for 25 minutes.
  4. Crank up the holiday tunes and dance with your family and friends for 20 minutes.
  5. Take your dog, or just yourself for a brisk 15 minute walk.

You’ve got to do all of this stuff anyway, right? Now you know it’s burning calories too.

Well, I’m gonna go fa-la-la-la get back to working on this mess of a house & kettlebell it up later.

What about you? Are you ready for Christmas? :)

Weekend Recap: Not again…

Saturday Morning, I woke up at 5am to let Taxi out, with all the intensions of going for a run…

fast forward to 8:00am, I just rolled out of bed. Oh hum. So I didn’t get my run on, but I got a lot of sleep and it felt great!

Hubs got back home somewhere around 9am from a meeting… found me and said “Lauren, someone hit your car.” I was shocked and thought maybe he was kidding… turns out.. nope. He was serious…

…and I was screaming. BEYOND fuming. I may or may not have hit the bedroom door… just sayin’

Background story: The afternoon before, Rod was doing yard work, so I parked my car in our cul-de-sac circle, right by our house. The evening went on and we didn’t move my car in the driveway, no worries, everyone leaves their cars in the street on our cul-de-sac and we’re all nice neighbors and watch our for each other.

So now here we are, clueless as to WHO did this… no note, nothing. Just a busted up backside of my car. My poor car. Hasn’t it BEEN through enough? Every accident this car has been in, has never involved me. It’s been hit 4 times now and I’ve never ONCE been inside the car. It’s been PARKED.

*deep breath*

So needless to say, we had a clue of “whodunit”… but we had to wait around the majority of the day for the people to get home.

I went to the grocery store while Hubs waited at home… I love grocery shopping, I met a very nice lady that offered a coupon to me for an item I had and she wasn’t buying. How nice is that? I love kind people. She had this huge binder of coupons and was telling me a bit about couponing. I think I’m going to go full force into couponing. I have a little mini folder thing and I will have a few coupons from time to time. This lady had a system and it worked. She told me how she got $180 dollars worth of grocery for $20 dollars. HELLO! Anyone want that to start happening? Yes, please. So now I’m on a mission to become a mega awesome couponer. I’ll keep you posted on that…

I got back from the grocery store, had lunch and then we get a knock on the door. It was the hit and runner. Thank goodness they came to us. So now it’s all worked out and thank the Lord for insurance. My poor car will be in the shop again.

That evening we went to eat dinner with my mom and sister at Tommy Bahama…

I love this restaurant.

The food is divine. I ate all my asparagus & sweet potato before taking a picture of its beauty. Whoops. The environment is relaxing and it smells so yummy in there. They have this candle that smells like you’re on the beach.

After dinner hubs and I went to get some froyo, because that’s what you do when your day was busted up.

Self-serve froyo is genius. Who ever came up with it, is brilliant.

Cafe’ Latte & Vanilla with strawberries, happiness in a cup. :)

Sunday, after church and lunch, hubs took a long nap {poor guy hasn’t been feeling the best} and I cleaned our casa and worked on the training schedule for the Nike Half-Marathon in October….

Instead of using a spreadsheet, I put everything into my iCalendar, that syncs with my iPhone and sends me reminders. Genius. I’ve found this is the best way for me to keep up with a training schedule.

And that my friends are the highlights {or lowlights, depending how ya look at it} from my weekend.

What did you do this weekend?
