Thoughts on Losing It

Did anyone catch the premiere of Losing It with Jillian Michaels?

It’s no surprise that I’m a Jillian Michaels fan. Sure, she’s dramatic, screams, hardcore, etc. But that’s everything that I like about her. Call me crazy, go ahead. ;)

The premiere started off with the Mastropietro Family, living in Massachusetts. A very loving family, that loved to eat, eat, eat and never talk about what was really bothering them. The mom, Agnes had lost & gained weight yearly. Father, James and daughter Michelle both had gastric bypass surgery done. It worked for Michelle, but not for James. Michelle is about to get married in roughly 6 weeks.

This is from the NBC website:
Jillian hits the family like a tornado and, shocked by their eating habits, puts them through a grueling first workout. What she didn’t expect to find is a much deeper problem – the family weight gain began after the loss of their newborn son, Jimmy, over 20 years ago. This tragic event has been an emotional roadblock for them and has fragmented the family in more ways than they realize. As she gets to know the family, she finds out that Jimbo has never spoken about the loss of his son since it happened. She has a lot of work to do.

What I liked about the show was that, they were beginning to deal with the core issues of why they gained weight. Jillian said to Michelle, {who is thin}, “That’s the problem with gastric, you lose all the weight on the outside, but on the inside, you still feel like that fat girl..”

What I didn’t like about the show is, they only have 1 week with Jillian. How are you suppose to learn proper nutrition and exercise in one week?… let alone start to deal with all the internal issues? Now, I’m not sure if they have on-going communication with Jillian, or a team she has? Not sure at all. But I think learning proper nutrition and exercise takes time.

Here’s a video clip from the show. I thought this was a sweet moment in this family’s life:

Did you watch Losing It? What are your thoughts about the show? Would you want your family to go on a show like this?

Long Weekend Pt 2 & Running Day!

Missed part 1 of our long weekend? Click here.

Where’d I leave off? Oh yeah, hanging out with the cute little bits for the day, while their brother was going into surgery. It was absolutely crazy to all of us that lil’nephew was having surgery to remove his appendix!?! He’s only 3!

Lil’nephew had the surgery about 9pm that Saturday night, and my sister got back to her house around midnight. The kiddos and I were crashed out on the couch and hubs was typing away on his laptop.

Sunday morning, lil’nephew woke up in the hospital and gave his dad a thumbs up, :) noting that he was feeling better. Such a cute boy. The doctors released him to go home around noon, since he was doing so well. He’s been recovery well. Hubs and I went over to their house Sunday afternoon, but of course we stopped at the toy store to pick up a few get well gifts. :) Lil’nephew was so cute, he asked “Is it my birthday?“. Gotta love it.

taken two weeks ago, fishing :)

So glad he’s on the upside of all of this. It was scary for a bit. THANK YOU for all your prayers and thoughts. :) Ya’ll are awesome.

Monday, Hubs and I went to the Astros game with his parents…

The game sadly was such a bummer, we were losing….

The most exciting part was a guy jumped out onto the field and made a mad dash to the other side… he got caught, but it definitely was exciting. :)  I did have fun chatting with my mother-in-law. Good times.

After we went to Salt Grass for dinner and I saw this sign there…

So beyond true. Anyone else agree? :)

After a quick stop at ma’ sisters house. We came home, walked the little miss and then I went grocery shopping. Let me tell you. Grocery shopping on a Holiday evening is the time to go! No one was there, it was awesome. Anyway, THAT was our weekend, eventful. :)

So did you know what today is?

That’s right, its National Running Day!

National Running Day is a national initiative of the major organizations within the running industry to join forces in an unprecedented unified effort to nationally promote running as a healthy, easy, and accessible form of exercise. The second annual National Running Day will be Wednesday, June 2.

From New York to San Diego, the day will celebrate the benefits of running as part of a healthy and active lifestyle aimed at combating some of today’s most pressing health issues.

You can participate in National Running Day anywhere—you don’t have to be in one of the cities hosting events to take part. At the least, all it takes is to wear your running shoes throughout the day, go for a run, and invite a friend to join you.

So, what do you think? Ready to get out and run!”

You ready to run!? Are you planning on running? When, Where, How Long? Happy Running Day!

Long Weekend Recap Pt. 1

Happy Tuesday Ya’ll! Anyone else confused this morning when you woke up, as to what day it is? I love long weekends. Friends, Family and Fun is always in store.

Our weekend was of course… busy!

Saturday morning hubs and I got up early to go Kayaking with our friends Ashlan and Bryan. Sadly, I didn’t bring my camera with me, so this is all I got for photos…

Before Kayaking

After Kayaking

Its not dark outside, we were in a parking garage and you can’t really tell, but I was sweaty! Kayaking is a serious upper body workout. I woke up the next morning and my abs were sore too! It’s a serious workout people. It was absolutely gorgeous out that morning and I SO wish I had photos to share with you. Oh well, next time.

After Kayaking, we went to have some lunch and I got a call from my sister, about my little 3 yr old nephew, who was being taken to the ER. If you follow me on twitter, you already know what happened and the outcome, {and I thank you for all your prayers!!} for everyone else who’s wondering what’s happened!?!…

My little nephew had severe abdominal pains Saturday morning {around 3 am-ish} and went to the ER to see what was happening inside his tiny body, well the local ER couldn’t do a dang thing, they had to take him t0 Texas Children’s Hospital downtown {about 45 minutes from us}, there they did many tests, x-rays, etc. They found out he had appendicitis, and needed to have surgery, ASAP. My sister’s husband was with lil’nephew, and my sis was at home with the other two kiddos, so Hubs and I went over to pick them up, so my sister could be with lil’nephew.

All day Saturday we were praying for lil’nephew and getting to hang out with these two…

Sorry to leave you hanging, but I’ve got a million things to do this today, so tomorrow I’ll have part 2 for you of our long weekend… :)

For now, how was your long weekend?
