Thoughts on Losing It

Did anyone catch the premiere of Losing It with Jillian Michaels?

It’s no surprise that I’m a Jillian Michaels fan. Sure, she’s dramatic, screams, hardcore, etc. But that’s everything that I like about her. Call me crazy, go ahead. ;)

The premiere started off with the Mastropietro Family, living in Massachusetts. A very loving family, that loved to eat, eat, eat and never talk about what was really bothering them. The mom, Agnes had lost & gained weight yearly. Father, James and daughter Michelle both had gastric bypass surgery done. It worked for Michelle, but not for James. Michelle is about to get married in roughly 6 weeks.

This is from the NBC website:
Jillian hits the family like a tornado and, shocked by their eating habits, puts them through a grueling first workout. What she didn’t expect to find is a much deeper problem – the family weight gain began after the loss of their newborn son, Jimmy, over 20 years ago. This tragic event has been an emotional roadblock for them and has fragmented the family in more ways than they realize. As she gets to know the family, she finds out that Jimbo has never spoken about the loss of his son since it happened. She has a lot of work to do.

What I liked about the show was that, they were beginning to deal with the core issues of why they gained weight. Jillian said to Michelle, {who is thin}, “That’s the problem with gastric, you lose all the weight on the outside, but on the inside, you still feel like that fat girl..”

What I didn’t like about the show is, they only have 1 week with Jillian. How are you suppose to learn proper nutrition and exercise in one week?… let alone start to deal with all the internal issues? Now, I’m not sure if they have on-going communication with Jillian, or a team she has? Not sure at all. But I think learning proper nutrition and exercise takes time.

Here’s a video clip from the show. I thought this was a sweet moment in this family’s life:

Did you watch Losing It? What are your thoughts about the show? Would you want your family to go on a show like this?
