Things I’ve learned about Running – Volume 2

Its cold.

I used to like the cold. Before I had to run in it. Now times have changed, and I shiver.

So here’s what I’ve learned {so far} about running in the cold:

  • LAYER up!
  • Cover your ears, they’ll thank you later
  • Wear Gloves {or end up complaining the whole time}
  • Breathing in the cold air feels like you’re being stabbed in the throat {I’m just sayin’…}
  • The wind is not your friend, run away from it.
  • The first steps always hurt the most, then after you get moving it fades away.
  • You feel super hardcore for running in the winter, and hope cars pass you by so they experience how cool you are.
  • You’ll sweat, but have no idea until your home and change.
  • Thinking about a warm shower WILL help you run faster.
  • And last, like any other time running, you will feel completely awesome and accomplished.

Happy Running M’Friends!

  1. way to go on keeping up with the running even though its getting cooler. I really enjoyed running in cold weather- but now im having issues running outside after it snows/becomes icy. i have such a fear of falling!

    i was trying to participate in Ange’s Project Snow all winter long and avoid a gym membership – but im currently dating a few gyms to find the perfect fit because I am just TOO concerned with slipping and falling on my bum, bruising my ego- or worse- coming out of it with an injury.

    When i was in Texas over Christmas I did find myself running a bit more — and then in snowed/iced over in Dallas- GO FIGURE!

    Keep up the good work, my friend!

  2. Ya know, if it started to snow and ice here, I don’t think I could get out there. I’d be scared of falling too… I’m prone to bones breaking. You were in Dallas? Me too! It didnt snow when I was there though. :\

  3. Hi! Read your profile over at Zoe’s. :)

    Love your list! Wind, yes. Ran against it this morning and UGH. Super hardcore? Check! But no cars really this morning. Bummer. And the sweat thing is right on, too!

  4. We were in The Woodlands for Christmas and New Year’s and it was great running there! It was shorts and short sleeves nearly everday. Then we got back to Oklahoma where it really gets cold and windy and did our first Oklahoma run of the year in 16 degree weather. Not fun.
