Vegan Football Player?

When you think of football players eating… what comes to mind?

{and yes, I gaged looking at this}

I would probably think a lot of football players would think “Ooo MEAT” seeing this. Well… not Atlanta Falcons Tight End Tony Gonzalez. Check out this Article my husband sent me. “In 2008—his first meat-free season—Gonzalez stuck to his diet and broke two major records for his position. “I was like, ‘OK, this is working,’” he said. “I have so much more energy when I’m out there.” That is so awesome! I love what he says here “I have so much more energy”. It’s true. I may not be a Vegan, but definitely being a vegetarian I’ve noticed my energy is way better than it ever has been before. I love this lifestyle and I’m conviced anyone, even a NFL Football player can have amazing benefits from it too. :)

So tell me, are you a vegetarian/vegan or would you ever try it as a lifestyle? and why? :)

  1. I read about him, and I think it’s awesome. I’m currently trying a month-long vegan experiment. I’ve been off and on vegetarian for years but never went vegan because of my love for dairy – dairy doesn’t love me back though, and I know it’s better for my health to not keep eating dairy because I like how it tastes even though I know it harms me. So far I’ve found so much energy this month AND many other benefits! Love it. :)

  2. I think I’m with OGilbreath on this one! I saw that picture and actually thought, yum!
    I just really love me some meat!!! I like red meat, white meat, “the other white meat”, seafood, shellfish, etc, etc. I could probably do the vegetarian thing for like a few weeks but definately not vegan, if I couldn’t have the meat, I would have to have the dairy!!
    Oh well, I try to eat healthy and I stay in pretty good shape sooooo I guess to each his own! I enjoy my veggies, my meat and my dairy!!! Thanks for the article reference though! I am sure the vegan/vegetarian has many benefits that my poor body will never know!!!

  3. i am a veg :) just cause i dont really like it! i didnt eat meat as a kid for like 8 years, ate it when i went to college and quit again last year. i dont think i could go vegan though – i need my dairy :)

  4. what is the difference between vegan and vegetarian?

  5. Vegetarians don’t eat meat, but they’ll eat dairy products.

    Vegans don’t eat meat or dairy products.

  6. I love him… I think there are probably a few more out there but they face a lot of grief… I’ve heard that he does… but I’m glad he’s out there spreading the word (even though I’m not vegan… I just think it’s a valid, smart way to go).

  7. odd that you mention this now. i am currently considering a lifestyle change. i have been reading about benefits of gong veg. but i’m not sure i would be very good at it. i don’t eat a lot of meat anyways but i would miss my chicken and seafood. dairy and eggs would be hard to give up as well. there is a lot to think over. there may be a trial run in my future though. i do believe that whatever you choose if you do it healthy than there is no reason you can’t be an incredible athlete.

  8. I love stories like this…..great way to inspire people to eat healthier!
