Things I’ve learned {so far} from running:
- English muffin & peanut butter is my favorite pre-run eats
- No matter how many times you go pee before a long run, you’re going to have to pee again real soon.
- Getting mentally ready for a run is so important
- Any Gu’s, Goo’s, Gel’s or anything else of the sort is not my friend
- I really like sports beans
- That its important to voice your goals
- Breathe. It’s all about getting your breathing in a rhythm
- Signing up for your first a 5k walk/run will get you hooked. The running bug will bite!
- Read about running. Anyone can run, but doing it the right way keeps one running.
- That I am capable of more than I ever thought I could

Number 10 is the best thing you could learn from running. Continue to enjoy your running and you’ll continue to learn more about yourself.
Awesome insight, Lauren!
So I’m thinking about ignoring the fact that I hate to run. I may start back up again. Kinda did already by accident. Ooops!
PS: When my son was 12 (last year), he finished his first 5K in 19:21. How good is that? Should I encourage him??? (he never gets out of breathe. I don’t get it)
Maybe thats what I need to do…Just sign up for one…
I love these. I am with you on all of them except #1, I eat a protein bar and #4, I love Gu’s!
Keep it up sister. You are going to learn so much more as you add on those miles.
Hi Lauren,
Found you via CAUTION: Redhead Running, while reading comments today. Morgan’s awesome, isn’t she? Ran w/ her for the 1st time last weekend – such a down to earth gal w/ a cool perspective.
So you’re running your first 10-miler on the 10th? Awesome! I’m running my first 10K on the 11th… can you say nervous, excited, nervous, anxious, nervous…??? (is there a pattern here??) And Morgan runs a ‘measly 10 miles” lol
Was checking out your blog this afternoon, and saw your list of things learned so far about running… really like it!
Can relate to several of them. How long have you been running? Didn’t find that yet while wandering through…
Also like your focus on breast cancer stories.. such an important issue.
Have a great weekend,
robin
