WFMW: “I’ma Vegetarian!”

wfmwbannerkristenIt’s Works For Me Wednesday over at We Are That Family! Be sure to check it out and link up!

I’ma Vegetarian! {I feel like I could sing that to the tune of “Diva” by Beyonce… Onnie, I feel a spoof coming on!}

July 2006. The month and year I decided to try this thing called Vegetarianism.

I never thought about being a vegetarian before.  My mom started eating more a vegetarian diet and I definitely noticed she lost weight, but also maintained that healthy weight-loss.

I had tried… everything.

Atkins.

Crazy Diet Pills.

Crash Diets.

Eat nothing until you binge diets. {those are the worst}

I tried it all.  Never worked, never stuck to it.

So my honest thought was, “why not try vegetarian?”…

and to be completely honest, I was SO scared to tell ANYONE! I thought everyone would think I am totally weird and would lose all my friends. Am I exaggerating? Nope. I honestly thought that. How silly of me.

So July 2006, I embarked on a new way of eating. No Meat. None. I don’t even like fish, so that’s out too.

Did I miss eating meat you ask?

Not one bit. No joke. I never even missed it, and I still don’t. I really enjoy what I eat now and don’t need a piece of chicken to take up space, I’m totally happy with a side of veggies AND a salad. SO GOOD! Plus, I’ve heard all kinds of new recipes and foods that I really enjoy, some are here, here and some that never really worked out…here. :)

Am I scared to tell people still?

Not at all, I’m quite proud of my healthy choices, and embrace the fact that some people find it weird… but I think it’s weird that they think it’s weird. :) It’s completely normal to me.

Is my husband a vegetarian?

No. :) But he’s a good sport. Apparently, I make an awesome chicken {but now I gag making it, raw chicken is funny looking ya’ll!} and Hubs does enjoy a good vegetarian meal here and there. He’s such a good man.

As a Vegetarian, I do take a B-12 vitamin everyday, because that’s the only main thing I’m lacking from not eating meat. Other than that, I’m A-OK on vitamins from all the fruits and vegetables I eat.

I do love it when I go to a restuarant and see a “Vegetarian” on the menu. Yea!

That’s my little story of being a Veggie-Head. The end.

So tell me, have you ever tried a new way of eating and felt people would judge you?
P.S. Hop on over to check out a super cool giveaway at Peanut Butter and Jenny! Awesome prize pack! Tell her I said Hi :)

  • i too went vegetarian to help with my weight and get my blood sugar levels back in place. I now eat a little meat every so often and cook it regularly for my husband but we try to stay on a mainly planted based diet and I love how i feel!

    thanks for sharing your story and how it works for you!

  • I’m a vegetarian too. It just kind of happened a long time ago having a vegetarian room mate who was a great cook. I can’t say that I’m as a great cook, but great enough that my husband loves all the salads, stir fries, quiches, etc, and so it just kind of happened to him too.

  • Vegetarian huh? I’d never make it since I am not a huge fan of veggies! lol Good luck with it!

  • Wow….I don’t love meat and don’t eat it a lot but like the option of eating it if I want to. Good luck and make sure you get protein from other sources.

  • I could definitely be a vegetarian. I don’t think I would miss meat at all. Ironically, my husband was raised vegetarian, but now he is the primary reason I still cook meat. And you are right, raw chicken is incredibly gross to me!!

  • Thanks for all the sweet comments today ya’ll :) I love the encouragement :)

  • grats :) i wont become a vegi. i can barely keep them down as it is. but good luck with your new found diet. :D
