{Fast Food} Closet Eaters & Biggest Loser

drive_throughPhoto Source Here - and a good article to read too!

Fast Food.

It’s EVERYWHERE.

Is it good… or bad?

For some, depends on how you look at it.

My blogging buddy Josie over at Yum Yucky, created a Food Fast Cheat Sheet with a great list of foods under 400 calories.

Watching The Biggest Loser last Tuesday, one of the contestants named Mike, started to talk about how he was a “Closet Eater” at it’s finest. Mike would eat roughly about 1,000 calories in a easy 10 minute drive home. Mike would hit MANY fast food drive-thru’s on his way home, he would eat ALL of the food he purchased in a 1o minute spand. He was embarrassed to even let his family {who were obese as well} know he was eating all that food.

It has kept me thinking “do I closet eat?

Is there food that I love {but doesn’t love my hips} and hide that I eat it? Hmm, something to take in to consideration?

I know that when I weighed my heaviest, well over 220+ pounds {honestly I don’t know HOW big I got in highschool, I just know I wore a size 20} I would easily closet eat, having an extra bowl of pasta AFTER dinner when everyone was done and gone, eating a whole quart of ice cream when I was home alone, heading to Sonic for a route 44 Slushie & Dairy Queen for a Blizzard all in one day. But NEVER letting anyone see me eat ALL this extra, extra, HIGH calorie food.

WHY?

Why should you ever have to hide what you’re eating?

If you’re hiding… does that mean it’s bad? Are you ashamed? Embarrassed?

Why closet eat? I personally think, that anything you feel you have to hide from people because deep down inside you’re embarrassed or ashamed of, then you need to check yourself and asked “WHY am I doing this?”

I can tell you now, that I don’t closet eat. I’m not ashamed of what I’m eating or how much of what I eat.

WHY?

Because I choose to eat healthier, better portions and over-around food that I’m proud to eat. Not a big Dairy Queen Blizzard and Fries on the side that make me feel like crap afterward and during make me think “I should not be eating this”.

I’ve taken control of what I eat. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. Your body does reflect what you put in it.

So with speaking of Mike from The Biggest Loser…

Who do you think will be in the FINAL 3 tonight??? DAD or SON? Did you call in and Vote? Who do you think will be the Biggest Loser? Tara? Helen? Mike? Ron? I’m so pumped for the Finale! :)

So tell me, have you ever hidden something you’re eating because you didn’t want people to know? Or have you always been fine with whatever you’re eating healthy or junky?

  • Looking at this picture, I’m so bummed I didn’t follow the season like a normally do.

I don’t closet eat, but every once in a while I find myself continuing to eat a dish past the point of hunger, even if it’s not really good. The worse ever is when I finish every one else’s pizza crust of their plate. WTH??? I gotta work on that pronto! That’s like borderline trash picking.

  • Brittany

Mikey better be in the finals!!! That’s all i’m sayin about that ;-) I can’t wait!

  • Jen

You gotta get on youtube’s movies section [www.youtube.com/movies] and go watch “Supersize Me!” – its not only a look at McDonald’s and the dangers of eating that kind of fast food, but it takes a big look at the fast food industry as a whole, and why they’ve continued to be so successful at making America one of the fattest countrys in the world. Better strap your eyeballs in, they’ll pop out once you watch.

  • @Jen, you’re right! I saw that movie and didn’t eat Mcdonald’s for a whole year. Now it’s pretty much only a hamburger (no cheese) in an extreme hunger emergency.

    Everybody watch that movie!

  • Josie, you would have LOVED Biggest Loser this season, it was hardcore

  • Britt! I know right, I agree :) :) :) I CANNOT WAIT to watch

  • Oh Jen, I’ve seen that. I want to see “Fast Food Nation” have you seen that?

Joise, I agree, its made me anti-McDonalds. I just can’t do it

  • Hey Lauren – love the blog!!! I was the same way in high school, though I think I was both an overtly bad eater and a closet eater depending on the circumstance. I haven’t seen Fast Food Nation, but I’ve seen Supersize Me – LOVED it. I honestly cannot bring myself to eat fast food anymore. Even going to restaurants is something I shun these days. I think it’s because I have come to *love* cooking and making my own creations so much so that I feel cheated when I eat out and have no control over the quality, ingredients, cooking method, etc. This makes me a very annoying friend and girlfriend! Everyone always wants to go out to eat and I’m the Debbie Downer who is like, “but do you KNOW what they put in their food?!” Hehe.
Also wish i would have kept up with the Biggest Loser :/

  • ahhh..I missed it. Who won? Did the young boy?
